Woodlands, Kuala Lumpur and Oriental Express

    Singapore train station Woodlands
Trains to Malaysia used to depart from the railway station in Keppel Road near Marina Bay. Since July 2011, the trains leave from Woodlands Train Checkpoint in North-Singapore close to the Malaysian border.

Woodlands is close to Johor Bahru, a major city in Malaysia. The Straits of Johor separates Malaysia and (North)Singapore. The Johor–Singapore Causeway (1km) links Johor Bahru across the Straits of Johor with Woodlands in North-Singapore.

The customs, immigration and quarantine facilities of Singapore and Malaysia are moved to the new train station in Woodlands. In the future they want one integrated border checkpoint for passengers in Singapore or perhaps in Malaysia.

    train Singapore - Kuala Lumpur
The main railway company in Malaysia is Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM). KTM operates daily a few train services between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. A train ticket 2nd class cost S$34 and a ticket 1st class cost S$68. A Deluxe Sleeper cost S$131. Tickets can be bought at the railway station or online at www.ktmb.com.my (website is in English). The journey takes about 6 hours and 12 minutes.

    Eastern and Oriental Express
Another famous line is the Eastern and Oriental Express. This luxury train has 30 Pullman Cabins and rides through rainforests between Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. From Singapore to Bangkok takes 3 days/2 nights. The cabins include a private shower, washbasin and WC. The sofa will be at night converted to an upper and lower bed. Renowned chefs make Eastern and European dishes in two restaurants cars. There is also a bar car and Observation Car. A Pullman Superior/Single will cost €1790 (in 2012), State Cabin €2600 and the Presidential Suite €3660. Because of the dangerous situation in some parts of Thailand it's not recommended for Western tourists to travel there (in 2011).
